The Greenfield School Athletic Department is proud of its
accomplishments. The department has a no-cut policy, allowing all
student athletes to participate. On the average, there is a
95% participation rate among the student body. Greenfield
offers varsity, junior varsity and middle school sports in soccer,
tennis, basketball, golf, volleyball, and baseball. The
department has 20 NCISAA state
championships, 21 NCISAA 2nd
place finishes, as well as countless semi-final appearances in
state tournaments. The Knights have sent
over 85 teams to the state play-offs in the past 15 years.
Greenfield competes
in the Coastal Plains Independent Conference, and is a member of
the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association. Along
with Independent school competition, Greenfield plays public
schools in the 1-A, 2-A, 3-A, and 4-A classification. The teams
try to schedule the best competition at the varsity level.
The
middle school teams participate in conference play, with an
emphasis on participation, sportsmanship and team oriented goals.
For the school year
2003-2004, Greenfield School was honored with the Wachovia Cup.
The Wachovia Cup is presented to the school with the best overall
athletic program. Teams participating in state play-offs are
ranked by a point system: 50 points for the state champion, 45
points for the runner up, 37.5 for the semi-finals and so on.
Each school participating in the state tournament and finishing in
the top eight receive points. Greenfield received 260 points for
the year and was honored by the NCISAA with the Wachovia Cup for
1-A competition. This was the first Wachovia Cup in Greenfield
School history. |
