MIDDLE SCHOOLThe Middle School program is designed to meet the needs of the preadolescent/adolescent child in grades five through eight as they become mature, independent workers and thinkers. The organization pattern is flexible and will change from time to time, depending on the needs of the children. In grades five and six, the program is largely influenced by an elementary school approach to teaching and learning. In grades seven and eight, the organization pattern is more departmentalized, with some built-in organizational flexibility.
GRADING Parents receive mid-six weeks progress reports as well as report cards after every six week grading period. Parent conferences are scheduled in the fall. Additionally, parents or teachers may initiate conferences as the need arises. ATHLETICSStudents in grades seven and eight are encouraged to participate in various team competition. All students in grades five through eight participate in the physical education program which emphasizes basic skills, fitness, and coordination. SPECIAL ACTIVITIESStudents are given the opportunity to develop leadership and social skills through participation in community service projects, student government, scholar bowl, the publishing of a Middle School newspaper, and various educational field trips. The Middle School faculty builds on the foundation established in the Lower School as it prepares students for Upper School. The school day begins at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m.
