Greenfield School’s College Guidance Program
Greenfield has a comprehensive College Guidance Program designed to assist high school students in making their best choice of a college or university, and that process begins starting in ninth grade. The goal of the Upper School Guidance program is to ensure that Greenfield students graduate with the organization, time management, decision making, and study skills to find success in higher education.
Components of the program include:
College Awareness: All freshmen take a year-long class designed to teach them high school life management and academic success skills.
College visits: Greenfield high school students have the opportunity to visit and tour up to six college campuses each year.
College Night: Each year the members of the freshman class host a college night for Upper School students and their families. Guest speakers, faculty members, alumni, and current students share ideas and information.
Resume Writing: All high school students begin a resume in ninth grade and they are encouraged to keep it up to date throughout high school. This assists with the college application process, as well as with job searches and scholarship applications.
Planning for summer activities: Greenfield students are encouraged to make the most of their summer months by attending leadership camps and academic programs. Information about these programs is shared with them via the College Guidance office and every effort is made to pair students with meaningful opportunities.
Academic Integrity and Internet Savvy: Students learn about plagiarism and issues relating to academic honesty, particularly as they relate to the World Wide Web. Our high school is governed by a Code of Conduct / Honor Code, as well as an Honor Council.
Standardized testing follow-up: Each year after the PSAT is administered to sophomores and juniors, the students and their families have the opportunity to sit down for a one hour pre-college planning meeting with the College Guidance counselor. Seniors and their families may schedule one on one meetings as often as they are needed until a college placement is decided upon, and scholarships have been applied for.
Greenfield students reap the benefits of challenging year-long instruction in academic subjects, and personalized college guidance and planning. This is available in a nurturing and well-managed school environment. Call for an appointment today!
