SENIOR SPOTLIGHT | Margaret Covington

She has been a key member of the Student Government Association serving as a Spirit Chair. She has immersed herself in the North Carolina Youth and Government program, serving as the Social Media Coordinator for three years, and then being named to the state level position of Broadcasting Editor for YAG her senior year. Margaret has also participated in Chick-fil-A Leader Academy, Headbands for Hope, Trivia Club, Environmental Club, and National Honor Society. Finally, she has been a key member of the Greenfield Varsity tennis and soccer teams, serving as a Captain.

Margaret has been accepted to App State, NC State, UNCW, ECU, Virginia Tech, Alabama and Sewanee. Margaret will be attending NC State in the fall as part of the prestigious Teaching Fellows program which will cover the cost of her tuition, where she has plans to go into Special Education with the goals of being a teacher or educational support staff one day.   1. How long have you been at GS? I’ve been here since Kindergarten.
  2. What has been your favorite class and why? Freshmen year Spanish with Mr. Penwell because we were his first class, and he had no idea what he was doing.
  3. What is your favorite thing to do outside of school? Probably work at Dick’s Hot Dog Stand.
  4. What is on your playlist? Grateful Dead, Van Morrison, Mt. Joy and John Prine.
  5. What colleges have you been accepted to and where are you going? ECU, NCSU, Alabama, UNCW, App State, Sewanee and Virginia Tech. I’m going to NCSU.
  6. What are you planning on majoring in? I am going to major in Special Education and maybe minoring in Psychology.
  7. What is your favorite show? Right now, it’s modern family.
  8. If you could do high school over again, what would you do differently? If I could do high school over again, I would balance out all my AP classes instead of taking them all in 11th/12th grade.
  9. What accomplishment are you most proud of? I am proud I got a scholarship to every college I got into.
  10. What will you miss the most about GS? I’ll miss sports and how you close you get to your teammates. Also, Willie the bus driver.
