In 2013, the J. Christopher Gauss Scholarship Fund was established to honor our friend and support our alma mater.  In November of that year the committee held a great event in the Greenfield gym, where they raised in excess of $45,000.  Since then, the Gauss fund has awarded three partial scholarships to the following worthy recipients:

Cedric Kirby (2014 recipient):  A senior at Greenfield, Cedric has applied to several schools and has been accepted at Barton.  A three-sport athlete, Cedric was Greenfield’s goalkeeper on the state championship team.  He has served in the Chic-Fil-A Leader Academy, is a member of the school Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and serves as Student Government (SGA) Treasurer.  Cedric is currently working on bringing an anti-bullying initiative to Greenfield.

Anna Merritt Hauser (2015 recipient): Anna Merritt is also a senior, a three-sport athlete, and a member of the National Honor Society (10, 11, and 12) as well as the Tri-M Music National Honor Society.  Anna Merritt is a strong leader, having served in the Chic-Fil-A Leader Academy, the General Hugh Shelton Leadership Academy, and is a SGA Homeroom Rep.  She has applied to NCSU, Meredith, and Ole Miss.

Sumer Hassan (2016 recipient):   Sumer is a sophomore at GFS, and another three-sport athlete.  Like Cedric and Anna-Merritt, Sumer has shown her leadership qualities by serving in the Chic-Fil-A Leader Academy, and is founder of the GSN Sports Network.  She participates in Youth and Government and FCA.  Sumer is also a youth basketball coach at the Rec.

Thanks to many supporters, the scholarship program has been a great success.  These funds have made an impact on our young leaders’ lives by helping make their education at Greenfield possible.  Not only has the scholarship awarded much-needed funds to these outstanding kids…it have been able to preserve the principal of the funds over these initial three years.  The goal is to continue to grow the corpus of the fund so that it can increase scholarship award(s) in the future.

We hope to see you on April 22nd!  These 2 paintings will be available through the purchase of raffle tickets!
