The preschool-middle school counselor provides strategic leadership and oversight for programs and services that support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success of preschool-8th grade students.Working collaboratively with faculty, administrators, families, and outside professionals, the counselor ensures that students receive appropriate support to thrive at Greenfield School.
In collaboration with teachers and division coordinators, the counselor designs intervention strategies and monitors student progress. The position also serves as a resource to teachers by promoting best practices in supporting students with special academic or socioemotional needs and by providing SEL instruction in K-8th grades. The counselor works individually or in group settings with students to provide short term responsive services and to refer to local mental health providers for more intensive mental health services when warranted. As part of the Crisis Management Team, the counselor ensures that the socioemotional needs of students are addressed when a traumatic or distressing event has occurred.
Through proactive communication and collaborative problem-solving, the PS-MS Counselor helps advance Greenfield School's mission of educating the whole child and supporting each student's individual potential.
This is a full-time, 11-month position.
Responsibilities of the PS-MS Counselor include, but are not limited to:
Preschool-4th Grade:
• Work with division coordinators and teachers to provide counseling, support, and guidance to families as needed.
• Provide observation, feedback and recommendations when students may require external referral due to concerns of mental health/behavioral concerns (i.e. Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory/Perception Issues, ADHD, behavioral issues).
• Provide in-class support when there is a crisis relating to a student’s behavior.
• Facilitate child and family treatment team meetings to address strengths, concerns and recommendations with the parents/Greenfield team.
• Advise admission office on any special circumstances where students have a pre-existing IEP/504 plan or additional needs that warrant a referral.
• Prepare and implement monthly SEL activities for all K-4 classes
• Provide support, training and resources to parents who request assistance in supporting their child and promoting their positive growth.
5th-8th Grade:
• Oversee the monthly SEL activities for 5-8th grade students.
• Implement transition supports for 5th grade students and students new to the school
• Provide observation, feedback and recommendations when students require external referral due to concerns of mental health/behavioral concerns (i.e. Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory/Perception Issues, ADHD, behavioral issues).
• Provide short-term counseling for students and parents as needed. Provide written communication with the parent/teachers/administration regarding skills addressed and interventions implemented.
• Refer students/families to external resources for counseling, medication evaluation and psycho-educational testing.
• Facilitate child and family treatment team and planning meetings with parents, teachers, assistants, administration and counselor as academic, behavioral or other concerns arise.
• Advise admissions office on any special circumstances where students have a pre-existing IEP/504 plan or additional needs that warrant a referral.
• Serve as advisor to the “Buddies not Bullies” club
• Make parents aware of camps and enrichment activities offered in the community
• Refer for academic support as needed

Requirements
• Master's degree and certification in School Counseling, or certification eligible
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a K-12 school or related setting
• Current licensure as Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMSC) or a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) preferred but not required
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a K-12 school or related setting
• Current licensure as Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMSC) or a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) preferred but not required
