Janet B. Beaman Academic Scholarship
Greenfield School offers two academic scholarships each school year to honor the dedication and career of Janet Beaman, former teacher and Headmaster.
The Janet B. Beaman Academic Scholarship is awarded to one rising 9th grade student who is currently enrolled in the 8th grade at Greenfield School, and one rising 9th or 10th grade student who has never been previously enrolled at Greenfield School. Each Beaman Scholar will receive a scholarship worth 50% of the current tuition (excluding fees) to be renewed for each year of high school.
The requirements will be determined by a committee of faculty members selected by the Head of School. The committee will be looking for a well-rounded, mission appropriate student with superior character and outstanding academic achievement. The following items are also required:
- A well written selection of essays
- One teacher recommendation
- One community recommendation
- An interview with the committee (new student only)
- Superior scores on the entrance exam (new student only)
Beaman scholars must maintain an unweighted GPA of 3.5, must not fail a class for a semester, and must remain in good behavioral standing (no suspensions or Honor Code offenses). The scholarship is renewed each year until graduation if the stated criteria have been met.
Scholarship applications for current Greenfield School 8th grade students are due by April 26, 2019; the winner will be notified by May 31, 2019.
Scholarship applications for new 9th or 10th grade students are due by June 27, 2019; the winner will be notified by July 31, 2019.
For students wishing to apply who are not currently enrolled in the 8th grade, please complete the application process to be accepted to Greenfield School by contacting Melodie Powell in the admissions Office. Then download and complete the 2019 New Student Janet Beaman Academic Scholarship Form. Beth Peters, Head of School, will contact applicants to set up an interview in June, 2019.
An application MUST be completed to be considered for both the existing student scholarship and new student scholarship.
Merit Based Scholarships for New Applicants
Students (entering grades 6th - 11th) who will be attending Greenfield School for the first time in the upcoming school year are eligible for Merit Based Scholarship opportunities; no scholarships are ever awarded for athletic participation. A limited number of scholarships are awarded each year.
Scholarships will be renewed each year provided the student retains an annual GPA of 3.2 (unweighted), does not fail a class for a semester, and remains in good behavioral standing (having not served a suspension from school or received a penalty disseminated by the Honor Council or Discipline Committee.)
Awards will be determined on or around June 1st prior to the beginning of each new school year. Only completed applications will be considered and the student must be enrolled for the upcoming school year.
Awards are based upon a combination of academic and character criteria and require the following:
- Most recent report card/transcript
- Entrance test results
- Teacher recommendations (English and Math teachers)
- Writing sample
