Course Description
This is a college level course which introduces students to the systematic and scientific study of behavior and mental processes of human beings and animals. Students are exposed to the psychological facts, principles and phenomena associated with each of the major subfields within psychology.
Course Objectives
After successful completion of this course, students will:
- Understand the history of psychology and the various theoretical orientations of psychology
- Understand research methods utilized to explore psychological concepts
- Understand the biological bases of behavior and psychological processes, including the endocrine system, neural processing, neurotransmitters and the anatomy of the nervous system
- Define key terms and concepts related to neurobiology, developmental psychology, states of consciousness, sensation, perception, learning, memory, motivation, emotion abnormal psychology, social psychology, personality theory and testing
- Demonstrate knowledge of introductory psychology on the Advanced Placement Exam
