Greenfield School is proud to announce the implementation of a new math curriculum in the Transition Kindergarten and Lower School. The faculty has been busy putting into practice Math in Focus: Singapore Math by Marshall Cavendish.

We are excited to facilitate critical thinkers and better problem solvers. Students will be drawn to investigate and discover at an early age using manipulatives and pictorial representations. Through student led discussions, teachers will coach students towards key mathematical ideas. A student’s understanding of math concepts comes with their direct involvement and guided practice not just from procedural processes. ”Singapore Math® teaches concepts using a concrete–pictorial–abstract learning progression to anchor learning in real-world, hands-on experiences.”
Singapore uses the instructional techniques of scaffolding which helps move students progressively toward stronger understanding and, ultimately, greater independence in the learning process. Differentiated instruction is built into the program for all learners too. We will offer re-teaching through gaining and reinforcing prior knowledge, extra practice and enrichment which offers unique problem solving skills.
Math in Focus: Singapore Math will continue to grow at Greenfield School. We will be including the 5th grade in 2018 and the 6th in 2019.
